Colin Kaepernick Is Back…….For Now

On Thursday night, San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick went on the road and led the team to a victory that is much needed right now. A victory that could change the fortunes of the team for the rest of the season, a victory that could keep the 49ers ship a float. Against……

The 49ers are now 2-2 on the season and Kaepernick can hold off the nay-sayers for a bit. After the team’s dominating performance against the Green Bay Packers in Week 1, the 49ers had a true butt-kicking handed to them from division foe Seattle Seahawks, as well as a loss at home against the Indianapolis Colts.

Even though on paper, this game was a mismatch and the game itself proved to be one, Kaepernick needed this victory for his overall confidence. He came out this week and said that he saves Twitter posts about the negative things that people say to him, and those things are what fuel him to be better and to prove to the doubters that he is still one of the best quarterbacks in the league.

Teams that have started 1-3 on the season make the playoffs less than 20% of the time, so it was incredibly important to show the league, as well as the wild 49ers fan base, that his stock is on the rise.

But, as the NFL consistently shows, teams are starting to figure out the read-option slowly, a playset that has become a strong trend among athletic quarterbacks in the league such as Kaepernick, Russell Wilson and Robert Griffin III. It gives the quarterback the option of handing the ball off while moving with the ball with it tucked into the runner’s stomach as if he’s going to take it, but then the quarterback as the option of pulling it out and throwing or running himself, all based on what the defense gives him.

Kaepernick’s athletic ability and the fact that the league had very little on tape of it had everyone guessing every game. But Kaepernick showed on Thursday that he can overcome adversity and lead his team to victory, something he didn’t have to face much of last season.

Before the critics jump on him too hard, its also important to understand that this is only Kaepernick’s 16th start in the NFL with the 49ers, and already he has led the team through the NFC Championship game after coming back from behind, a close game in the SuperBowl and a big victory in a high marquee game over the Packers.

Kaepernick is learning what many of the great, incredibly athletic quarterbacks are grasping more and more……its important to be able to just be a basic quarterback who can throw and use the legs when need be instead of vice versa.

Colin Kaepernick will only grow from this, and with a veteran team around him, including strong head coach Jim Harbaugh, the San Francisco 49ers organization is in good hands with #7 at the helm.
